Saxo Bank dominated yet another day in sunny France when time trial World champion, Fabian Cancellara pulverized all competition on today's time trial over 52 kilometers from Bordeaux to Pauvillac. Here, the powerful Swiss took his second and the fourth Saxo Bank stage win during this year's Tour de France.
The set-up for an intensely nail-biting Tour de France finale has rarely been more perfect. Eight seconds separated Andy from the leader's jersey on the second-last day of the Tour after 3500 kilometers crossing high mountains, bumpy cobblestones and cruising past beautiful flower fields in flat terrain.
And Andy did the best time trial of his career when he impressively attacked the course and actually took time on his rival. Alberto Contador (Astana) and was only two seconds away from taking the overall lead of the race, increasing the thrill of the stage.
And even though the white knight managed to put Alberto Contador (Astana) under pressure, it was not enough to take the overall lead of the race but Andy consolidated his spot on the podium with a margin of 39 seconds to the Spaniard.
