Magnificent Tour for Andy
Cavendish wins last stage
by Rosso

As tradition prescribes, Paris today formed a marvelous setting for the Tour de France finale. The 102 kilometer long and final stage between Longjumeau and Champs-Élysées in Paris was an entertaining party parade where the warriors kept their weapons in the holster until they stormed the world famous boulevard to launch the final battle.

And here, Nicki Sørensen, demonstrated cunningness and strength by conquering the French boulevard in a breakaway of eleven riders and he proudly cannoned though Paris with the Danish flag on his back proving he is the Danish national champion. With 12 kilometer from the magical finish line, the Dane initiated a partnership with Karsten Kroon (BMC) and Christian Knees (Milram) in an attempt to maintain the fierce pace.

But the adventure ended six kilometers to go and Mark Cavendish (HTC-Columbia) did a convincing sprint and taking the win. Dane and Tour de France debutant, Matti Breschel did a great sprint among the strongest sprinters in the world and finished eighth on Champs-Élysées.

Tour de France 2010 was one of the toughest and most demanding editions of the race ever. At the same time, the race closed with a margin of seconds between the top contenders for the overall win. After the cobbles in northern France where Frank Schleck crashed and broke his collarbone, rainy days in the Ardennes, mountain marathons in the Alps and Pyrenees and a long head wind time trial on the second last day of the 3642 kilometer long race, only 39 seconds separates Andy from the overall win.

However, Saxo Bank has been second to none in this year's Tour de France. With young Andy as the team leader, Tour de France 2010 has been one of the most fruitful in the history of the Team with four stage wins, winner of the youth competition and overall second place.
