The third stage at the Vuelta a Andalucia offered the type of unpredictable parcours that could play into the hands of a successful breakaway. Andy made an early effort to get into a five man break, but that small group was never allowed to get away. In fact the breakaway group that did eventually form and build a reasonable lead was not allowed some breathing room until about seventy kilometers into the stage. In the end, the break was swallowed up about ten kilometers from the finish line with Francisco Ventoso (Team Movistar) taking the sprint victory.
The Spaniard saw off the challenges of Juan José Lobato (Andalucia-Caja Granada) and Davide Appollonio (Sky) to take the win. Markel Irizar (RadioShack) finished safely with the peloton to retain the overall lead.
Andy finished in 58th place.
